Q: Can I sync my Google Calendar with Apple's iCal and iPhone?
Context
- Apple iCal
- Google Calendar
- Calendar sync
- iPhone calendar sync (indirect)
Answer
Google Calendar allows you to subscribe to one or more calendars via standard web links that are understood by Apple's iCal. Once a Google Calendar is synchronized with your desktop iCal application it can also be synchronized with your mobile device. However, for more robust Google Calendar and Google Contacts iPhone synchronization see [archive:Can I sync my iPhone or iPod touch with Google Calendar and my Gmail Contacts?]
- In Google Calendar click the Settings link in the upper-right hand corner
- Click on the Calendars tab
- For the calendars you would like to sync click Share this calendar to go to a different set of tabs
- The one you are brought to automatically is Share this calendar and you want to select Calendar Details
- Scroll to the bottom and you should see an option that states Private Address with options XML, ICAL and HTML
- Click the ICAL option and it should provide you a link to copy
- Copy the link using COMMAND-V or Edit menu > Copy and open iCal on your computer
- In the iCal menu bar select Calendar > Subscribe
- Paste the link copied from Google Calendar and hit Subscribe; this should pull up the calendar from Google Calendar
