How can I merge multiple Canvas sites or sections?

A class might have multiple sections that meet together, such as undergraduate and graduate sections. Depending on how the data for the class is set up on the Registrar's end, you may only have one site and the students in your other section are missing, or you may have two Canvas sites you would like to merge. Please see below for more information for each of these scenarios.

If there is only one site, and some students are missing:

Please email canvas-support@mit.edu. Depending on the Registrar data, a second site may exist that you do not have access to which contains the rest of your students. If so, canvas-support@mit.edu can help locate the other site and grant you access to it. If you would then like to combine your sites, please see below.

If there are two sites, and they should be merged:

If you are going to import membership using the MITSIS Section Import tool, you must do so before cross-listing your classes.

If you want to combine the rosters on both sites onto a single site, you may use Canvas's cross-listing feature.

If there is any content like files that you want to move from one site to another, you may use the Canvas import tool to do so.
