BitLocker Helpdesk

This article pertains only to computers on the WIN domain and that have the MDOP MBAM client installed.

The BitLocker MBAM (Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring) web portal provides an interface for end-users and IT administrators to retrieve the BitLocker Recovery Key for any machine they have already logged on to. In addition to the BitLocker self-service portal, there is a section for help desk personnel. This section allows help desk staff to recover the BitLocker keys for any computer in the WIN domain.

Accessing the Helpdesk Portal

In your web browser go to https://bitlocker.mit.edu/helpdesk/ and enter WINKerbID and KerbPassword. (The win\ is required!)

Help Desk MBAM site

In the Key ID field, enter the first 8 characters of the recovery key ID and click submit. The Drive Recovery Key will be returned.

Notes:

Requirements to be able to recover the key (which scenario is the client in?)

  • Client machine must be on the WIN domain
  • Client machine must have the MBAM client installed, either manually or via SCCM
