Atlas - Visitor Guest Account and MIT Guest ID Setup on iOS and Android Devices

Former Tim Tickets users will be able to migrate their guest account/Digital MIT Guest ID to Atlas. Open the Tim Tickets app, login, and follow the prompts to migrate your account/mobile ID to Atlas.

Overview

In order for a visitor to be issued an invitation for an MIT Event and access that event, each visitor must:

  • Have a non-MIT email address (e.g. @gmail.com @verizon.net etc)
  • Provide contact information (name, phone number/email address)
  • Install the MIT Atlas mobile application on their supported device
    • iPhone (device must be running iOS 14+)
    • Android (device must be running Android 7+).
  • Install Okta Verify for authentication
  • Set up their MIT Guest account and MIT Guest ID

Set Up MIT Guest Account

Visitors must set up their guest account and MIT Guest ID in order to request access, accept invitations, and access campus for their visit. These instructions cover how to set it up without having been sent an individual invitation link to set up your account. If you have been sent an invitation link, some of the information may be auto-populated in the form as the person who invited you already provided that information.

  1. Download and Install MIT Atlas
    • iPhone (device must be running iOS 14+)
    • Android (device must be running Android 7+).
  2. Download and Install Okta Verify.
  3. Open MIT Atlas.

  4. Select MIT Guest.

  5. Enter your email address and select Continue.

    Result: If this address is not already associated with an MIT Guest Account, you will be taken to the account creation screen. If you already have an account, you don't need to do this and will be prompted to login instead. For more on login, see the login section below.
  6. Enter your personal information.
  7. At the top-right, select Create. You may be asked to complete a ReCaptcha security check.
    Result: Account successfully created prompt will pop up.
  8. Select Login
  9. Enter the same email address and select Next.
  10. Enter the same password you just created and select Verify.
    Result: You will be prompted to set up dual factor security protection for your account.
  11. Under Okta Verify. select Set Up.
    Result: You will be prompted to choose a way to set up OKTA Verify.
  12. Select *"Email me a setup link"* and select Next.
  13. Select Send me the setup link
    Result: You will get a confirmation email was sent and an email at the address specified with a setup link.
  14. Check your email on the device you're setting up. You should see an email like the following.
  15. Select Activvate Okta Verify push.
    Result: If you do not have Okta installed, you maybe prompted to do so. Click the download link and install it. Once installed, return to your email and try the link to verify again. You will be taken to an Okta welcome screen.
  16. Click Continue.
    Result: You will be taken to Okta Verify Push Registration screen.
  17. Select Activate Okta Verify Push.
    Result: You are prompted to set up Face ID or Passcode Confirmation.
  18. Select Enable.
    Result: You receive confirmation your account has been added.
  19. Click Done
    Result: You are taken to your Okta home screen where you can get a passcode for authentication by clicking on the eye icon to reveal it.
  20. Go back to MIT Atlas.
    Result: You will see a screen with optional additional security setup methods.
  21. Scroll down and and select Continue.
  22. If prompted to login, select Guest and follow the prompts.
  23. Once logged in, you will be directed to the welcome page or the visitor's page within MIT Atlas where you can accept any active invitations and activate your Guest MIT Mobile ID.

Activate Your Guest MIT Mobile ID

Screen shots may vary by platform. These examples were taken in iOS.

  1. Open the Atlas app.
  2. Authenticate using your visitor account.
  3. To fully activate your Mobile ID, you will need to upload a photo. Click Profile > Upload Profile Picture.





  4. Follow the prompts to upload your profile picture either from photos on your device or using the camera (you may need to grant the Atlas app access to your photos or camera in order to do this).
    Result: Your profile photo will appear on your profile.
  5. Tap the menu at the top left and select MIT ID. If you don't see this option, exit Atlas and restart it. It may take a few minutes for this option to be available after you create your account.

  6. Tap MIT ID.
  7. Tap Activate Mobile ID and follow the prompts.
    NOTE: Once your Mobile ID has been added, it can take up to 30 mins before the Mobile ID is fully activated. For more, see: MIT ID FAQ
