loopback

Definition

The term "loopback" or "loop-back" refers to a special route that sends traffic from your computer back to itself, usually without this traffic actually being sent out over the network. The term is most commonly used in the context of computer network traffic, but can also be found in other areas involving signal transmitted over a medium, such as radio technology and power transmission.
