ASCII

Definition

American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) in computer science is a standard way of encoding what is commonly referred to as "plain text". ASCII uses one byte to encode each letter. It does not contain formatting such as bold face or italics. Unformatted email is a common example of ASCII text, as is raw HTML code (what you get when you view the source of a web page).
