Q: How can I save a search in Request Tracker ?

Context

  • Request Tracker (RT) on help.mit.edu
  • Ticket tracking at MIT
  • Individuals with staff or admin access to RT queues

Answer

Creating a saved search is easy in RT. Once you've saved a search, it will appear in the "Saved Searches" widget on your RT At A Glance home page, and can be used in other contexts as well. It's a great way to track common reports you need to run, custom queue searches you need to look at, etc.

  1. Construct your desired search
You can use any of the built-in methods to build your search. You can use the search box that appears in the upper right of every page, the Simple Search interface accessible from the Tickets menu, or the full Query Builder interface accessible via New Search on the Ticket menu. You can also transition from simple to more complicated, so you can start your search using the search box or Simple Search, and then click on the Edit Search tab to refine it in the full Query Builder interface.
  2. Save your Search Results
Once you are on a Search Results page you want to save, complete the following steps to save it as a personal Saved Search:
    1. Click on the Edit Search tab to go to Query Builder
    2. Look for the Saved Searches panel on the Query Builder screen
    3. Leave the Privacy menu set to My Saved Searches (the default)
    4. Enter a name for your saved search into the Description field
    5. Click the Save button immediately next to the Description field

That's it! Your saved search will now appear in the My Saved Searches section of the Saved Searches panel on your RT At A Glance home page. You can also load your saved search and edit it using the Load Saved Search menu in the Saved Searches section of Query Builder.
