IS&T-Managed FileMaker Hosting
Overview
IS&T offers cost-effective managed FileMaker hosting for departments, labs, and centers through its Managed Servers service. IS&T’s FileMaker hosting environment is configured to meet industry standards and best practices for security, availability, and backup recovery, and in most cases we strongly recommend using IS&T-managed servers for FileMaker hosting at MIT.
IS&T offers two tiers of managed FileMaker hosting: shared and dedicated. With shared hosting, your database(s) live alongside those from other DLC's on the same server, while with dedicated hosting, you have your own dedicated server. Both shared and dedicated hosting feature the same level of security, reliability, and client access. There are limitations on administrative access and certain other functions with shared hosting, but it's generally the more cost effective option. Your particular needs will determine which tier is appropriate as well as what your hosting fee will be.
Note: MIT’s volume license for FileMaker Server has limitations with the use of FileMaker Go and WebDirect. If you require either of these functionalities and want to use IS&T-managed hosting, you may need to purchase your own FileMaker Server license. For more information, see FileMaker Server Licensing at MIT.
