Stellar Learning Modules - Setting global access for staff

What is the impact of enabling or disabling Global access for an instructor, administrator, TA or grader for a Stellar site?

  • Global access means that such staff members will have access to all content within that specific class, as well as access to all section-specific data. This applies regardless of whether or not a Global staff member is assigned to any sections.
  • If a staff member is assigned to a section and does not have Global access, they will only see two kinds of content: content specific to their section, and content available to all sections in the class. For example, a non-global instructor in R01 will only see students assigned to their section when they browse the Gradebook Module. If this instructor is granted Global access while retaining their section assignment of R01, they will then see students in all sections.
  • For Global staff members, the section assignments option exists primarily for organizational purposes. For example, if a student views their section information from their Student Portal page, and if an instructor (Global or otherwise) is assigned to a particular section, that instructor's name will be listed next to that section.

NOTE: Currently, staff who have global access will receive all emails sent to participants from the Membership Services Message Center, including emails sent only to one or more course sections. The Learning Modules Support team is working to resolve this issue.
