Setting your RT preferences
This article will guide you through the process of setting your RT preferences, which you'll need to do the first time you start using RT.
This article assumes you have already been set up in RT for "consultant" access and that you are able to successfully log in. Now we'll go through your Settings, your Quicksearch Queues, and your About Me page.
Settings
If you have successfully logged in to RT, you should see some menus across the top of the screen:
From the Logged in as ... menu, select Settings and then Options. This should take you to the Settings page, and we'll go through the various sections here: General, Links, and Ticket Display.
General
Recommended Settings:
- Create new ticket immediately: Yes
- Default Search Page: Simple Search
If you have used RT before, or are familiar with SQL queries, you may wish to use Query Builder as your default search page, but Simple Search should suffice for most cases.
Links
We recommend setting Open newly created ticket in new window to Yes. This way, if you're working on one ticket, and have to open another ticket, you won't lose your place.
Quick Search Queues
From the Logged in as ... menu, select Settings and then Quick search. This should take you to the Customize Quick Search page. On this page, you'll select the queues you'd like to appear on your home page, and also the queues that will be searched when you use the "quick search" box at the top-right of all RT pages.
Be sure to click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.
About Me
From the Logged in as ... menu, select Settings and then About Me.
Identity
In this section of the page, you may update your name if your name in the directory is different than the name you normally use, or if you prefer a nickname (e.g. "Jim" instead of "James"). If you do not wish to display your full name, you may change it to be your first name and last initial.
