On this page

Components included

This Oracle Administrator client installation contains the following components:

  • SQL*Net
  • ASO (Advanced Security Option)
  • Oracle ODBC drivers
  • SQL*Plus
  • MITAnsSeedGenerator, a Java program that generates a unique random seed for SQLNET.CRYPTO_SEED value. This program is deleted upon completion of the installation.
To add and configure 32-bit ODBC drivers on Windows 7 x64, you have to use the 32-bit version of the ODBC Administrator. To do this, open a command prompt and enter:
    %windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Getting Ready

  1. Back up your system. Before beginning any installation, IS&T recommends you have a current and complete backup of your existing system. While we have tested the install process, there is an infinite number of possible system configurations, and some may cause problems.
  2. Oracle 11g client is supported for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
  3. It is not necessary to uninstall Oracle 9i in order to user Oracle 11g.

Choose Oracle client version

  1. BrioQuery users on 32-bit or 64-bit machines should choose the 32-bit Oracle 11gR2 client

If the install is not successful

  1. The MIT Oracle 11gR2 installer is a silent wrapper which
    1. Creates a sqlnet.ora file, including a dynamically generated crypto seed
    2. Adds ldap.ora and sqlnet.ora to the machine
    3. Runs the standard Oracle 11gR2 installer, installing the Administrator client.
  2. The Oracle installer checks for certain prerequisites before installing, such as operating system version and maximum path length. If these prerequisites are not met, the installer will not complete.
