How to uninstall Silverlight

Follow the steps below to uninstall Silverlight in Windows and/or Macintosh.

Windows

1. Quit all open internet browsers.
2. Click on the Start button.
3. Select Control Panel.
4. Select Programs & Features.
5. Locate and click on Microsoft Silverlight, then click Uninstall. If you also see WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Dec 2006) or WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Feb 2007), Remove/Uninstall these as well.
6. Your PC will notify you when the uninstall process is complete.

Macintosh

1. Access your hard drive.
2. Double-click the hard drive icon on your desktop.
3. Find the plugin.
4. Navigate to your Internet Plug-Ins directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/.
5. Remove the plugin. Drag any of the following into your trash bin:

• Silverlight.plugin
• WPFe.plugin

In some cases you may need to use the following Terminal commands to remove the above mentioned files and some additional components:

• rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin
• rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/WPFe.plugin
• rm -rf /Library/Receipts/Silverlight*.pkg
• rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Silverlight
• rm -rf /var/db/receipts/com.microsoft.installSilverlightPlugin.bom
• rm -rf /var/db/receipts/com.microsoft.installSilverlightPlugin.plist
