Change mouse-scrolling behavior in OS X 10.12 (Siera) or later

In Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and later, Apple changed the default scrolling behavior of human-interface tracking devices (mice and trackpads). Scrolling now follows mouse and trackpad movements (scrolling down now tracks a document "up" much like on the iPhone and iPad). This tutorial will explain how to disable this feature and return tracking to its previous behavior.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to System Preferences under the Apple menu in the upper left-hand portion of your screen.
    Apple > System Preferences

  2. Select the Mouse or Trackpad reference option.
    Mouse preferences button

  3. Deselect the option labeled Scroll Direction: natural.
    Scroll direction check-box
