.NET Framework 3.5 Won't Install - Windows 10

You may see the following configuration dialog if you try to run an app that requires the .NET Framework 3.5.

Attempting to install .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 10 Enterprise fails because Windows Update is not the source for installation files (your computer is getting updates from MIT's update server).

Solution

  1. Install .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 10 Enterprise using the offline installation. Mount the original ISO file (right-click and choose Open with->Windows Explorer) from your Windows 10 installation media.


  2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator then provide following command (make sure to change the drive letter to the letter of your Windows ISO mount point):

    This will initiate an offline installation of .NET Framwork on Windows 10.

Windows 10 v1809 and higher

There is an updated cab file and new command line for doing an offline installation on Windows 10 v1809 and higher. Follow the above steps to mount the Windows ISO and run the following command:
