Active Directory (AD)
Definition
Active Directory (AD) is a directory and authentication service created by Microsoft and used by many applications and services for user lookup and authentication, to verify a user's identity and their level of access. Active Directory uses the industry standard Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) versions 2 and 3 and Kerberos behind the scenes.
