Q: In Word 2007, how do you get Word to always open a document in Draft Mode?

Context

  • Word 2007
  • New views in Word 2007 don't just allow you to change the template as the place for the default view of the document as it did in previous versions.

Answer

Go to the Office Logo button > Word options > Advanced > General > Allow opening a Document in Draft View

It is my observation that all new documents will open in Draft view AFTER you save a first one in draft. Documents created, edited, and saved in Print Layout will open in Print Layout. If you switch to draft and then save them in draft, the next time they will open in Draft view.
