Q: How to use the excerpt macro in Confluence wiki pages

Context

  • MIT's central wiki service on wikis.mit.edu
  • The Knowledge Base formerly known as Hermes on kb.mit.edu

Answer

Confluence contains a pair of useful macros for displaying an excerpt from one page on another page. These macros are:

  • excerpt, which goes on the page you are trying to reference
  • excerpt-include, which goes on the page on which you want to include the excerpt from the reference page

There are several ways to insert macros into Confluence wiki pages, including the macro browser. This article describes using wiki markup. If you're using the rich text editor, make sure to click on the Wiki Markup tab to edit wiki markup directly. These macros are also documented in the Confluence Full Notation Guide, which you can open from the Help Tips sidebar when you are editing a page.
