How to access Tim Ticket Events on iOS and Android Devices

Overview

Tim Tickets is a visitor pass system, part of the MIT Atlas suite of applications developed by Information Systems and Technology (IS&T).

Important:
Effective December 1, 2022, campus building access guidelines have changed. Visit the IS&T website for current building access details.

In order to be issued an invitation for a Tim Ticket Event, each visitor must:

  • Have a non-MIT email address (e.g. @gmail.com @verizon.net etc)
  • Provide contact information (name, phone number/email address)

The MIT Tim Tickets mobile application is available for iPhone (device must be running iOS 14+) and Android (device must be running Android 7+).

Accepting an Invitation

When an individual receives a event pass invitation, they will click on the "Get My Tim Ticket" button in their email. At that point, they will be taken to the Tim Tickets app to enter their information and get a personal MIT visitor ID for unescorted entry into buildings and events.

:

Visitors may also get an email from the sponsor of the event that will have a link to the event (or a QR code) that they will scan - both will bring visitors to Tim Ticket app for the event.

For iOS Devices

Once you have clicked on the link in your email the Tim Ticket App should open up. On the login screen choose Visitor Login

You will be prompted to enter your mobile number. Once your mobile number is entered (no dashes), click on Send PIN Code

NOTE: If you have attended an event in the past or have had a Tim Ticket before, the PIN code will also be sent to your e-mail as well.

Once the PIN code is entered, visitors should see a page that has a box (TICKET) for the event. Visitors will see the name of the event, along with the start and end times of the event.

To access the Mobile ID for entry you will need to click on the card that has the event information.

Once tapped, a new screen will appear that will provide you both access to the mobile ID (number 1) and access to a visitors map of the campus (number 2)

To Activate Your Mobile ID for Event:

Click on the Mobile ID button

To fully activate your Mobile ID, you will need to upload a photo. To do this click on the Add profile photo button button

On the next page, you would click on the Upload button

Visitors will have the option to either upload an existing photo from their mobile or can choose to take a new photo.

.

Upon completing the photo requirement, visitors have the option to add a Mobile ID to the app on their iPhone. Start this process by clicking on the Add to Apple Wallet button.

If the Mobile ID option is chosen, instructions on how to use the Mobile ID are found by clicking on the How to Scan button

Once the Add to Apple Wallet button is clicked, visitors have the option to add to their iPhone or Apple Watch (if applicable).

Once decided which device(s), visitors are prompted to add the Mobile ID - on this screen click on the Next button.

Visitors are then prompted to agree to the Terms and Conditions of Mobile ID. Once reviewed, click on the Agree button.

This process will add the MIT Mobile ID to the Apple Wallet.

If you choose not to use the Mobile ID option, visitors have the option to print out a physical ID card. Scroll down below the Add to Apple Wallet Button and choose the Also get a physical card button

.
The device will be provided a QR code that is scanned at one of the MIT ID card kiosks. To find the nearest MIT ID card kiosk location, click on the Kiosk Location button below the QR Code.

Android Devices

Once you have gotten an invitation for the event, you would enter your phone number - and then tap the Send OTP button. This will send a one time code to your phone

.

Once you have confirmed your OTP, you will be brought to the following page which outlines next steps. To move forward you would tap on the I'm Ready! Let's Get Started button.

You would then fill in the following information:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Best Contact Phone Number
  • E-mail Address

You will then see the event listed within the app. You will then choose how you would gain access to the building - mobile ID or a physical ID. To get to either option you would tap on the Mobile ID button

For either feature, you will need to upload a photo for the ID. To do this you would tap on the Upload Photo button. This will allow you to either take a photo with your device or you can upload a photo from your camera roll.

Once your photo appears along with your name and MIT ID number, you will need to either register the Mobile ID or choose to get a physical ID card. If you choose to use the Mobile ID feature, you would tap on the Register button.

If you choose to get a physical ID, you would scroll down below the Register button and tap on the Get a Physical Card button.

The device will be provided a QR code that is scanned at one of the MIT ID card kiosks. To find the nearest MIT ID card kiosk location, click on the Kiosk Location button below the QR Code.

Once you have fully activated your Mobile ID, you will see a green box at the top of the screen stating that your Mobile ID has been added to that device. NOTE: Once your Mobile ID has been added, it can take up to 30 mins before the Mobile ID is fully activated.
