SAPgui login GSS-API Miscellaneous error

I am trying to log in to SAPgui and instead of arriving at the usual login prompt, I am getting an error message that says GSS-API error, Miscellaneous failure. How do I log in to SAP?

Solution

This error message indicates that SAPgui is unable to find valid Kerberos tickets. A number of things may cause this. One situation which can cause the issue is that Kerberos tickets are present on the machine, but have expired. If this is the case, the issue can be resolved with either of the following:

  • Restart the machine - this should clear expired tickets and you should see the login screen again the next time you attempt to launch SAPgui.
  • Renew your Kerberos tickets on your machine
    1. Launch Kerberos for Windows. The menu path may vary, based on your Kerberos version. It may be similiar to: Start > All Programs > Kerberos for Windows > Network Identity Manager.
    2. Renew you Kerberos credentials. Again the interface may vary, based on your Kerberos version.
    3. Try again to log in to SAPgui.
