Adding Contributors to Your Site
You have a two options for adding additional Contributor, Author, Editor or Admin users to your site.
Add New Contributors with an Invitation Link
Follow these steps to invite someone to contribute to your site.
- Go to your site’s dashboard, and under the Users menu choose Invite Users.
- Create an ‘Invite Code’. This could be any descriptive value, such as “subscribers” or “admins”.
- Choose the Default Role for this invitation. A description of WordPress roles is available at User Role Overview. The user’s role can be changed later if desired.
- Click Add New Invite Code.
Result: You will see the new code listed under “Invite Link”. - Copy this newly generated URL and share it with anyone that you would like to join your site.
- Note that anyone with this link can join your site! The best practice is to delete the invite link after your contributors have joined the site to ensure nobody else is able to access your site if the recipients accounts are compromised or they accidentally share the link with others.
Add Existing MIT Sites Users to Your Site
There is an easier method if you know that the contributor you would like to add is already a member of MIT Site, for example if they already contribute to another site or own their own site.
- Go to your site’s dashboard, and under the Users menu choose Add New.
- Type in the user’s Email or Username.
WordPress may try to autocomplete this value for you as you type. - Choose the desired Role for this user.
- Click Add Existing User.
Result: They should now be able to access your site with that role.
