Disable auto-correction of spelling in Mac OS X

Primer

  • Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), Apple has included a feature that automatically corrects common misspellings; similar to the behavior in Apple's iOS. This guide will show you how to disable this feature.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to System Preferences.
    .

  2. Select Language & Region preference pane.
    .
  3. Select Keyboard Preferences... located in the bottom of the window
    .
  4. Select the tab labeled Text.
    .
  5. Uncheck the box labeled Correct spelling automatically.
    .
  6. Close the System Preferences window. Spelling auto-correct is now turned off.
