Configuring MIT LDAP for Thunderbird

These instructions are for both PC and Mac.

  1. Open Thunderbird and log in to your MIT email account.
  2. Windows users, go to Tools > Address Book. Mac users, go to Window > Address Book.
  3. In the Address Book window, select File > New > LDAP Directory....
  4. Enter any name you would like to describe the directory in the Name field.
  5. For the Hostname, enter ldap.mit.edu.
  6. For Base DN, enter dc=mit,dc=edu.
  7. The Port number should be 389.
  8. Leave the DN Bind field blank and the Use Secure Connection (SSL) check-box unchecked.
  9. Click OK. This should return you to the Address Book window.

Note: You must be connected to the internal network for LDAP searches to function.
