Q: Accessing Hosted FileMaker Databases from Off-Campus
- I am working from home and I want to log into our departmental FileMaker database. Is that even possible?
- I am going to be traveling and I want to be able to look up things in our FileMaker database while I am on the road. I can do this from anywhere at MIT with my Laptop; why can't I connect when off campus?
What you need to know and do to connect to hosted FileMaker databases from off-campus
In order to access files or resources that are hosted on MIT servers from off-campus, you must first connect to MIT's remote-access VPN service using Duo Security two-factor authentication.
- For instructions on setting up a VPN client at MIT, visit Prisma Access VPN Landing Page.
- MIT's VPN service requires Duo Security two-factor authentication.
- For information on how to register a device for Duo, see Duo Authentication Landing Page.
After you have connected to MIT's VPN, you may proceed with the following steps:
- Launch Global Protect and connect to MIT VPN with Duo.
- Launch FileMaker Pro and open the database as you normally would.
