Common questions

  • Where can I borrow a laptop?

  • Where can I rent a laptop?
  • Is there a laptop loaner program?
  • I need a laptop for a short period of time

Summary

There are a variety of loaner and rental laptops available to members of the MIT community, depending on the context, whether you are a student or not, and what you need a laptop for.

Student Laptop Loaner Program

IS&T funds a Student Laptop Loaner Program specifically for currently enrolled MIT undergraduate students who need a laptop for a class or academic work, and are unable to use their personal laptop because it does not meet specific requirements or because they do not have a personal laptop. Laptops are available to students for up to a semester at a time. For more information, program guidelines, and information on how to request a laptop please go to:

Service Desk repair loaners

Due to the evolving Covid-19 situation, IS&T Service Desk walk-in IT help and repair services will not be offered in the Atlas Service Center until further notice. If you have questions or need assistance, contact the IS&T Service Desk at any time 24/7 at 617-253-1101 or servicedesk@mit.edu.

The IS&T Service Desk has a very small number of loaner laptops available specifically for clients whose laptop is being repaired by the Service Desk. Request can be made at the time a laptop is dropped off for repair with the Service Desk in E17-106 (40 Ames Street.)
