Q: How do I print from Evince (Document Viewer)?
Answer
The default PDF viewer on Athena is now "Evince". You can launch it by double-clicking on a PDF file, or by typing evince in your Terminal window.
- If you started Evince from the terminal, open your PDF file by choosing "Open" from the "File" menu.
- Once your PDF file is open, choose "Print" from the "File" menu. This will open the printer selection dialog.

- Verify that the correct duplexing mode (single sided or double-sided) is selected, by clicking on the "Page Step" tab at the top of the window. Once the "Page Setup" tab is open, locate the option "Two-sided" under "Layout".
- For double-sided printing, select Long Edge (Standard).
- For single-sided printing, select One-Sided.

- Click the Print button.
Printing a portion of your document?
If you want to only print a subset of your document, first select the printer you wish to use as shown above. Then, locate the "Range" section at the bottom of the Print window, and click the radio button next to "Pages". In the box next to "Pages", you can type a range (e.g. 1-10) or a comma-separated list of pages (e.g. 1,2,5), or both (e.g. 1,3,5-15).
Printing your thesis? If your thesis is large and printed double-sided, it may take the print server several minutes to process the job before sending it on to the printer. This can cause a long delay during which it may seem that your job isn't printing. Try breaking your thesis up into smaller chunks (e.g. 20 pages at a time).
