Q: How do I upgrade my Debathena workstation to the newest release of Ubuntu?

Answer

Private Debathena workstations do not automatically upgrade.

Ubuntu releases are supported for 18 months, except for LTS (Long Term Support) releases. Once this support period ends, it becomes nearly impossible to upgrade a workstation to the latest version of Ubuntu, and instead re-installation is required. Workstation administrators (those listed as the Administrative Contact in Moira) will get notified by IS&T when the release they are running is about to become desupported.

To upgrade a workstation, you will need to be an administrator of the workstation (in the 'admin' group). Before beginning the upgrade, please close any applications you're not using, and make sure that you have a backup of any local data installation on the workstation.

For detailed upgrade instructions, please select the bullet below that applies to you.
