Q: How do share my files and maps from ArcGIS?

Answer

In ArcGIS 10.X, you can create a map package to keep all your data and the map document in one file.:
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//006600000403000000

If you do not use a map package, you will need to give someone both your map document (.mxd file) and all the data files included on that map. Saving the map only saves what you see on the screen, not the data layers.

If you open a map that has been shared with you and ArcMap cannot find the associated data or you recently changed the location of your data, red exclamation points will appear next to the data layers. Click one and it will ask you the location of the data for that layer. Navigate to the location where the data are stored.
