Q: How do I set up Opera to retrieve MIT Exchange Email using IMAP?
Answer
Caveat: Opera's browser and email client are not supported by IS&T. This article is based on my own experience with Opera running on Windows XP and RHEL 4, and can't be guaranteed to work for you.
Anyway, disclaimers aside, Opera's built in email client can be used to manage email on MIT's Exchange server by using IMAP functionality. Assuming you know how to create a mail account in Opera (choose IMAP as the account type), here are the important settings:
Replace "yourkerberosname" with... well, your kerberos name, and you should be all set.

As far as I can tell (which isn't that far), you can replace "Opera" with "Nearly Any Other IMAP-Based Email Client" in the above post and all should be well, but I haven't found much documentation to that effect.

I did set up Thunderbird to talk to the mail system via IMAP, and that worked OK.
With Opera, the Authentication choices seem to be crucial - I had problems until I tried Plaintext for incoming and Auto for outgoing.

If you are migrating from Cyrus to Exchange, you may need to delete your account from Opera and create a new one, rather than just changing the settings to point to the new mail server.
