MSI Scripts and Group Policy Information

Please note: Neither OEIT nor IS&T provide custom MSI development or integration services, but the information on these pages may still be of value in some cases.

The pages within this section describe some common group policy settings for win.mit.edu containers along with some useful management scripts. The scripts are provided and should only be used by knowledgeable system administrators.

Before you get started you should be familiar with the following information:

  • The preferred tool to manage the container(s) that you administer is adcontmgr.msc. It is installed on every managed windows machine and should be available from the command line or Start/Run.
  • Many of these scripts assume that you not only have administrative access to your container but are also listed as a local administrator on each of the machines within your container. This is easily accomplished with the addadmin script provided by the WinAthena development team and is described in the scripts section.

Scripts and Batch Files

There are three basic ways to run scripts within your container: system startup/shutdown, user logon/logoff and on the command line.

These settings allow you to have a broad range of control over all of the machines in your container(s).
