Upgrading from Debathena Jaunty to Debathena Lucid
The upgrade from Debathena Jaunty (Ubuntu 9.04) to Debathena Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04) introduces a number of changes. Before performing the upgrade on any mission-critical workstation, we recommend you fully test any third party software for compatibility. If in doubt, we recommend that you install Debathena Lucid on a separate Athena workstation, so that your Jaunty installation is still available for testing and debugging.
With Debathena Lucid, we now fully support debathena-workstation, debathena-login, and debathena-standard on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms. Please note that while most software will work on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, there is still some software that may function only on 32-bit platforms. Before switching to a 64-bit operating system, we recommend you fully test your software on a 64-bit machine. You cannot "upgrade" from a 32-bit workstation to a 64-bit workstation; you must perform a re-install instead.
Not sure whether you're running 32-bit or 64-bit? Type uname -m in any Terminal window. If it says x86_64, you're running a 64-bit OS. If it says i686 or i586 or i386, you're running a 32-bit OS.
Please note that the upgrade is a two-step process: you will need to first upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), and from there to Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid). For more information, please see:
