Running SAPgui on Apple computer with Apple Silicon Chip (M1 or M2 Processors)

In certain cases, SAP will not fully open on Apple Computers that have an Apple Silicon Chipset (also known as M1 or M2 Processors).

In these cases the following should be done:

1.) Install Java on the computer. Steps can be found at this Java Support Article. NOTE: Performing the commands in this article require you to be an administrator for the computer.

2.) Install SAPgui

3.) Reboot the computer.

4.) Install Java version JDK 8u202 which can be found at this Oracle support article.

5.) Reinstall SAPgui from the IS&T Software grid.

SAPGui may not open after completing the above steps, and you may see a bouncing SAPGui icon on the dock! Fix-it:

  1. Open a terminal window and type:
     java -version

  2. Note the Java version running on your system.
  3. In the same terminal window type:
     cd /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines

  4. Next type:
     ls

  5. If there are multiple jdkX.X.Z_XYZ.jdk folders in /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines, delete only the folder(s) for the Java version you're are NOT running on your system using this command:
     sudo rm -rf jdkX.Y.Z_XYZ.jdk

Note: Seen multiple examples of the same issue on intel-based chips, follow the above steps to fix it as well
