Installing Certificates with Android 5.x, 6.x, 7.x

Important *You CANNOT install certificates on the mobile device without creating a passcode for it. This feature cannot be changed as it is an Android design configuration setup by the Android device's manufacturers. If you prefer to keep your phone unlocked, please do not attempt install certificates on the device. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to Set up a passcode prior to continuing the installation process.

This setup uses Firefox Browser for Android. Please note that Firefox keeps all certificates internally and does not install them on your device. As a result, you must use Firefox to access any certificate-protected MIT sites.

1. Open the Play Store app and search for "Firefox".
   
   
   
2. Select Firefox Browser for Android and click Install.
   
   
   
3. Once installed, open Firefox.
   
   
   
4. Navigate to the MIT Certificate Page.
   
   
   
5. Enter your Kerberos username, password, your 9-digit MIT ID number and tap Next.
   
   
   
6. Tap the Next button to Generate a Private Key.
   
   
   
7. At this point, Firefox will generate a key and save your personal certificate.
   
   This process may take a few minutes.
   
   
8. Once the installation process is complete, you will be notified that the certificate is installed. Tap OK.
   
   
   
9. Finally, tap to install the MIT Certificate Authority Certificate.
   
   
   
10. You should see a prompt asking you to trust the certificate identity.
    
    
    
11. Check all three boxes and tap OK.
    
    
    
12. Test your certificate by going to http://web.mit.edu/certificates/test/.
    
    
    

• Your MIT Root and personal certificates will be installed.
