How to turn off Find My Mac utility

Q: How to turn off Find My Mac utility.

The IS&T Service Center is unable to create a repair / order parts from GSX (Apple diagnostics and repair service page) if the Find My Mac feature is enabled.
Find my Mac is Apple’s security feature to protect the machine from being used and modified by a third party without the owner’s permission. If the machine is 2018 or later and has T2 security chip, unfortunately IS&T cannot order parts until Find My Mac is disabled on the device.

Answer

A user can disable the feature by logging into iCloud.

  1. Go to https://www.icloud.com/settings/.
  2. Type your Apple ID and password. An icon will appear.

  3. Click on the device and it will give you an option to remove it from find my Mac security server. Then select (X) right next to the device to remove it.

Further Information

  • Related Vendor instructions are found at Apple.
  • If the service was unable to be disabled remotely the user will need to visit Apple and unlock the device in person. This feature can always be turn back on after the repair is completed.
  • Please let the IS&T Service Center know once this is complete, or visit to make the change at your convenience. Once completed the team will be able to place the part order.
