Default Certificate Selection in Firefox

Question(s)

How do I set Firefox to use a default personal certificate rather than ask me every time I visit a secure site?

Solution

Windows:

  1. Go to Tools > Options > Advanced.
  2. Click the Encryption tab.(in Firefox v. 23.x Certificates tab.)
  3. In the Certificates section, select the option Select one automatically.
  4. Click OK to save the changes.

Mac:

  1. Go to Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
  2. Click the Encryption tab. (in Firefox v. 23.x Certificates tab.)
  3. In the Certificates section, select the option Select one automatically.
  4. Close to save the changes.

Additionally, this can be modified via about:config. Change security.default_personal_cert from "Ask Every Time" to "Select Automatically".
