How do I clear the browser cache for Mozilla Firefox?

Firefox Browser version

Firefox 30 and higher

  1. From the menu select History > Clear Recent History
    {!}

    If the menu bar is hidden, press Alt to make it visible.

  2. From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select the desired range; to clear your entire cache, select Everything.
  3. By "Details", click the down arrow to choose the parts of your history to clear. To clear your entire cache, select all items.
  4. Click Clear Now.
  5. Close all browser windows and quit Firefox
    Result: Your cache is cleared and you can reopen Firefox.

If there's no History menu:

  1. In the upper right, click on the 3 horizontal bars, then choose History.

  3. Set the Time Range to Clear to Everything.
    Click the triangle to show Details. Select Cookies, Cache, Active Logins and Site Preferences.

Firefox 6 - Firefox 24 on Windows

  1. Follow the menu path Firefox > History > Clear Recent History.
  2. Change the value for Time range to clear to: Everything.
  3. Click the triangle next to Details.
    Result: Additional options are displayed.
  4. Leave Cache and Site Preferences checked. You may wish to uncheck other options, in order not to delete history entries, and data that has been stored for websites you have visited.
  5. Select Clear Now.

Firefox 6 - Firefox 24 on Macintosh and Linux

  1. Follow the menu path: Tools > Clear Recent History – or use quick keys Command+Shift+Delete (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Linux)
  2. Change the value for Time range to clear to: Everything.
  3. Click the triangle next to Details.
    Result: Additional options are displayed.
  4. Leave Cache and Site Preferences checked. You may wish to uncheck other options, in order not to delete history entries, and data that has been stored for websites you have visited.
  5. Select Clear Now.
  6. Close all browser windows and quit or exit the browser.
  7. Relaunch Firefox and try again to access the site.

Firefox 3.x (Macintosh, Windows, Linux)

  1. Follow the menu path: Tools > Clear Recent History – or use quick keys Command+Shift+Delete (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+Delete (PC)
  2. Change the value for Time range to clear to: Everything.
  3. Click the triangle next to Details.
    Result: Additional options are displayed.
  4. Leave Cache and Site Preferences checked. You may wish to uncheck other options, in order not to delete history entries, and data that has been stored for websites you have visited.
  5. Select Clear Now.

Firefox 2 (Windows or Macintosh):

  1. On:
    • Windows: Follow the menu path: Tools > Options
    • Macintosh: Follow the menu path: Firefox > Preferences
  2. Select the Privacy tab.
  3. In the Private Data section, select Clear Now.
  4. Leave Cache checked. You may wish to uncheck other options.
  5. Select Clear Private Data Now.
