Q: Can I view classes from my iPad ?

It is possible to view classes from your Apple iPad using the iPad app, and taking advantage of MIT's subscription to for all MIT faculty, students, and staff.

  1. Find "" in the iTunes store on your desktop and sync the free app to your iPad, or find it from the App Store application on your iPad and install it directly. (There is also an iPhone app for your iPhone. Either will work, but be sure to download the one appropriate for your device, to use your iPad to its full advantage.)
  2. Tap the app on your device to launch it.
  3. Ignore the user name and password fields on the login screen and instead tap on the button labeled web portal log in
  4. On the web portal access screen, enter in the URL box and leave the "remember this URL" switch set to On; tab submit
  5. You will be directed to the MIT Touchstone login screen for iOS devices
    • Log in by entering your MIT Kerberos username and password
    • Note: The MIT web certificate login option will not work, even if you have valid certificates on your iPad or iPhone; it only works in Safari directly, not inside the web page viewer.
  6. After successful authentication you'll be redirected back to, fully logged in. You should see the message Welcome MIT user! in

    Latest version 2.0.2 Oct 29, 2012 works on iPad and iPhone and has some slight changes. Below are the changes to some of the steps listed above.

    Re: #3 Now an accordion style menu where you select "Web Portal Access"

    Re: #4 The "remember this URL" switch has been removed. The URL is remembered by default now.

    Re: #6 When you have successfully logged in, you will be brought to the "Latest Releases" screen.

    There is a new navigation bar at the bottom of your screen with icons for the following categories: Latest, Subject, Software, Author, My Courses. There is also a "Settings" gear icon where you find the log off button and help. The button always appears in the "Latest" screen, but behaves differently based on iPhone or iPad installation. The following table will indicate where the gear appears based on device.

    As of version 2.1.1 the user interfaces have become similar with the "Burger" in the upper-right for navigation and the menus becoming placed in similar locations.
