Q: How do I set up remote access with a Windows 7 or Windows 10 machine?

Windows 7 Users

Please follow the steps outlined here from Microsoft:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17463/windows-7-connect-to-another-computer-remote-desktop-connection

Windows 10 Users

Follow the steps in the article above for Windows 7 but note these differences.

  • The article was written for Windows 7 so there will be some cosmetic differences in the screens presented.
  • For Windows 10 you will skip steps 1 & 2 in the article and use the following to get started.
  1. To access remote settings Type: Allow Remote in the start menu search field then press Enter
    Result: The System Properties > Remote tab will open.
  2. Select the top option Allow remote access to your computer.
    Continue by following the remaining steps in the Microsoft article above to configure your computer for remote desktop connections.

    This doesn't work for Windows 7 Home Premium. Does anyone know how to set up remote desktop w/ this OS?
