This applies to custom kernels only. If you are running one of the stock kernels from a supported Ubuntu or Debian distribution, you should use the Debathena OpenAFS metapackages. |
If you built your own kernel, then you will also need to build your own OpenAFS modules before you can use AFS.
Needing new OpenAFS modules is also likely the problem if you get an error message similar to the following when you try to install openafs-modules-`uname -r`.
