Q: Why did Debathena stop working when I upgraded Ubuntu?

Answer

Due to a known bug in Ubuntu (Launchpad #148080), upgrading between Ubuntu release disables all third party APT repositories, including the Debathena repository. This bug has been fixed for upgrades to Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and higher.

Users affected by this bug can re-enable Debathena functionality by editing /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debathena.list after the upgrade and changing the release name on the two lines.

For example, after upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid, your debathena.list file may look like this:

#deb http://debathena.mit.edu/apt hardy debathena debathena-config debathena-system openafs
#deb-src http://debathena.mit.edu/apt hardy debathena debathena-config debathena-system openafs

You should uncomment all the lines in the file (by removing the # at the beginning of each line), and change hardy to intrepid. The resulting file would look like this:

deb http://debathena.mit.edu/apt intrepid debathena debathena-config debathena-system openafs
deb-src http://debathena.mit.edu/apt intrepid debathena debathena-config debathena-system openafs
