Q: What are my email options if I don't want to use Exchange?

Answer

When the Cyrus IMAP email service is retired, the only supported, in-house email service provided by IS&T will be the Microsoft Exchange service. If you feel that the Exchange email infrastructure does not suit your email needs or requirements, it is possible to forward your MIT email address to another service provider. Many MIT community members forward their email to third party email service providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and others.

Please note that we recommend caution when storing your email and data on a third party provider. If you have sensitive data, you'll want to carefully study the privacy policy of any third party email service provider.

Alternatively, if you're part of a department that runs it's own email infrastructure (MIT Medical, Facilities, Space, CSAIL, Math , Sloan and more), you may be able to forward your MIT email to your account on those servers. Please consult your local IT administrators for more information.
