What is Unity Single Inbox?

As of Wednesday, October 24, the Single Inbox feature of MIT's voicemail system will be deactivated due to incompatibility with newer versions of Exchange, MIT's email system. Accounts previously using this feature will default to receiving voice messages by email. If you prefer to retrieve messages from your desktop phone, go to, click Administer, change your Unity account type to store on server and click Update Settings.

  • The Single Inbox feature synchronizes MITvoip voice mail messages with MIT Exchange email.

Features of Single Inbox:

  • Messages that you read or delete in email will be marked as read or deleted within the voice mail system and vice versa. Likewise, the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) light on your telephone will follow the status of voice mail messages delivered to your email account.
  • The Single Inbox feature only works with the MIT Exchange email service - see How do I tell if my email is on the Exchange email server or the IMAP email server?  It will not work with MIT's IMAP email system, MIT's Office 365 Exchange Online, nor with other Exchange email systems.
  • The Cisco Unity Email Forwarding feature can be used to deliver voice mail messages to other email systems at MIT or elsewhere.

  • For users of the Cisco Unity voice mail system with MIT Exchange accounts.
