Q: What are these oldrt group names I see in new RT?

  • What are these oldrt group names I see in new RT?
  • My group name in RT got changed from mygroup to oldrt-mygroup. What's up with that?

Answer

During the migration from RT 3.4 to RT 4.0 some group names had to be changed by pre-pending the above mentioned oldrt- to the front of the group name. This was due to the LDAP/Moira group integration in new RT 4.0.

Groups that had likely conflicts with their LDAP equivalents were renamed to oldrt-*. In some cases it was because membership was significantly different, in others because the RT groups contained subgroups, but the LDAP ones didn't, and we weren't sure if it was okay to lose that hierarchy.

What to do about it

If your group was renamed to oldrt-groupname in RT 4.0, check to make sure the equivalent Moira group groupname actually has the membership you would like to use for access control in RT. If it does, you can go to your queue configuration screen and grant the moira group groupname the correct access on your queue. After you've done and verified this, you can remove access for oldrt-groupname.

You can also change to a different Moira list for access control instead of using groupname, as long as you make sure you've given the correct group and people access before removing access for the oldrt-groupname list.
