Q: Does sharing files between OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office really work and what are the known issues?

Answer

Files can be successfully shared between the two office suites, however the conversions are rarely perfect.

OpenOffice.org has produced excellent user documentation. The Open Office Migration Guide details file exchange, command interoperability and other issues in coming to Open Office from other suites such as Microsoft Office and Word Perfect. The document is available in PDF format for both major versions of Open Office:
