Q: How do I edit a pdf file?

I have a PDF file. I'd like to edit it. How can I do this?

Solution

Unfortunately, most PDF files are not editable. It is possible to make a special type of PDF file that has "fill-in-the-blank" form fields. But for the majority of PDF files, like those that were created from a MS Word document, the PDF is not editable.

That's just the way PDF was designed - it was designed to be a printable final copy, and not designed to be editable. There are probably a few companies that sell software that you could use to convert from PDF to MS Word, but IS&T doesn't have any recommendations, and we don't know if the software even works well.
