What is Unity Single Inbox?

Overview:

  • The Single Inbox feature synchronizes your MITvoip voice mail messages with your MIT Exchange email.

Features of Single Inbox:

  • By activating this feature, messages that you read or delete in email will be marked as read or deleted within the voice mail system and vice versa. Likewise, the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) light on your telephone will follow the status of voice mail messages delivered to your email account.
  • The Single Inbox feature only works with the MIT Exchange email service - see How do I tell if my email is on the Exchange email server or the IMAP email server?  It will not work with MIT's IMAP email system, MIT's Office 365 Exchange Online, nor with other Exchange email systems.
  • The Cisco Unity Email Forwarding feature can be used to deliver voice mail messages to other email systems at MIT or elsewhere.

Context

  • For users of the Cisco Unity voice mail system with MIT Exchange accounts.

How do I activate the Unity Single Inbox feature for voice mail?

  • To activate the Single Inbox feature go to the SIP Account Management page at https://voip.mit.edu and click on the (Administer) link next to your phone number.
  • Enter your MIT Exchange email address in the Unity Email Address: box.
  • Set your Unity account type: to single inbox.
  • Click Update Settings to save and view your changes.
