Q: Why do I keep being prompted to identify myself with a certificate on Athena?

Context

  • Firefox 3 or later
  • MIT personal web certificates

Answer

The default behavior of Firefox is to prompt you to select which certificate to use each time, even if you only have one personal certificate installed.

To have it select your certificate automatically, first close all Firefox browser windows, including any you have minimized in the panel. Then run:

athena% athrun consult fix-firefox-certs-prompt

For information how to change this Firefox setting manually on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X see [archive:How do I tell Firefox to select a certificate automatically?]
