How can I change the title of my "Bibliography" section to "References" instead?

To change the title of your "Bibliography" to read "References" instead, insert the following lines of code into your LaTeX file, before the \begin{document} command:

    \makeatletter
    \def\thebibliography#1{\chapter*{References\@mkboth
      {REFERENCES}{REFERENCES}}\list
      {[\arabic{enumi}]}{\settowidth\labelwidth{[#1]}\leftmargin\labelwidth
	\advance\leftmargin\labelsep
	\usecounter{enumi}}
	\def\newblock{\hskip .11em plus .33em minus .07em}
	\sloppy\clubpenalty4000\widowpenalty4000
	\sfcode`\.=1000\relax}
    \makeatother

The above code will work for report and book documents; in the case of article, the "chapter*" should be changed to "section*"

You can also change the title to something other than References, by changing all three occurences of the word to be whatever you want.
