Q: How can I call internationally for cheap from my cell phone?

MIT has negotiated an agreement with MobileSphere CellularLD to provide reduced international wireless long distance calling rates for MIT students and staff when calling from their registered cellular phones. (Cell phones are registered with MobileSphere CellularLD, not MIT. This is basically a discount calling card type plan (you will get an account which you can charge up with money), but tied to your cell phone(s) rather than a physical card.

Steps

  1. Go to MIT's MobileSphere CellularLD service page for more information, rates, and sign-up info.
  2. Once signed up, use the special access number to dial international numbers rather than direct-dialing.
