Q: Can I run two virus protection software applications on my machine? Won't this be safer?

Answer

In general, users should install only one virus protection software per machine. The one exception is Crowdstrike, which can be installed alongside a traditional virus protection package, to augment threat detection with an additional behavorial-based detection approach.

Loading multiple traditional virus protection software applications can cause a machine to run slowly and possibly render both applications ineffective.

IS&T provides virus protection software at http://ist.mit.edu/software-hardware?type=16

For Windows machines

Please remove other products that may have been factory installed using the Windows Add/ Remove Software control panel.

Note: Most factory installed virus protection software subscriptions will expire unless renewed.
