I'm getting a server may be down or not accepting connections error when trying to connect to my web site

Answer:

This error can occur if you don't have Passive FTP activated in your site connection settings:

  1. Go to Site > Manage Sites, make sure the site name is selected, and click Edit.
  2. Make sure the Advanced tab is selected, then click Remote Info in the Category list.
  3. If the Use Passive FTP check box is not checked, uncheck Use Secure FTP, check Use Passive FTP, then re-check Use Secure FTP.
  4. Click OK.

Then set the FTP timeout to a higher number:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences and under the Categories list, click Site.
  2. Change the setting for FTP timeout to a higher number.
  3. Click OK.
